Kabila Joins the DeRec Alliance!
We’re proud to announce that Kabila has joined the Decentralized Recovery (DeRec) Alliance, an initiative that will significantly impact the future of Web3.
This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to empower creators and communities on Hedera as we believe that the DeRec Alliance's efforts in developing a decentralized safety net for Web3 will improve its safety, accessibility, and usability.
By joining this alliance, we aim to contribute to these developments and make Web3 more accessible to everyone!
What Is the DeRec Alliance?
The DeRec Alliance is a group of forward-thinking companies from across the Web2 and Web3 ecosystems that are committed to making the process of securing and recovering digital assets, accounts, and other secrets as simple as existing Web2 experiences.
Leveraging a new open-source standard, members are working together to help their users and the rest of the world realize the promise of Web3 without the complexity.
About the DeRec Protocol
The Decentralized Recovery (DeRec) open-source protocol is a standard approach to secret management. It is based on secret sharing among a set of helpers (e.g., friends or businesses) who can help the user recover their secret when needed.
Each helper’s share reveals no information about the original secret, and half the helpers can give the user their shares to reconstruct the secret, even when a user has lost their phone or other two-factor recovery device.
The protocol includes automatic, regular confirmations that helpers still have their shares of secrets and automatic re-sharing when secrets change or helpers join or leave. The user never reveals who the helpers are or how many there are, and even the helpers won’t know that.
Founding Members
The DeRec Alliance was founded by several prominent organizations in the Web3 industry:
- Hashgraph: Hashgraph, formerly known as Swirlds, is the tech company behind the development of Hedera Hashgraph, a high-performance distributed ledger designed for secure, fast, and scalable decentralized applications.
- Input Output (IOHK): The development arm behind Cardano, committed to open-source principles and blockchain interoperability.
- Hedera: An open-source, leaderless proof-of-stake network known for its high throughput and energy efficiency.
- Algorand Foundation: Focused on building an inclusive and decentralized economy, providing technology that is secure and scalable.
- Ripple: A leading provider of enterprise blockchain and crypto solutions, aiming to enable the world to move value like it moves information.
- XRPL Labs: Developers of wallets and other software for the XRP ledger, enhancing the utility of the XRP ecosystem.
Cardano: A blockchain focused on sustainability, scalability, and interoperability, to support secure and efficient decentralized applications.
How Does Decentralized Recovery Work?
Dr. Leemon Baird invented Decentralized Recovery to safeguard secrets such as private keys, passwords, and digital identities. It allows for recovery if the original is lost.
A DeRec application on a user's device creates an encrypted vault containing these secrets. It then generates cryptographic fragments of the encryption keys and distributes them among a set of trusted helpers, which can include friends, family, or businesses.
Key features of DeRec include:
- Privacy: The system conceals the number of helpers, their identities, and their keys, ensuring user privacy.
- Daily Checks: The user's device automatically contacts each helper's device daily to verify they still possess their share of the secret, ensuring recovery capability.
- Automatic Rebalancing: If a helper becomes unresponsive, the system automatically adjusts, redistributing shares among remaining helpers to maintain security.
What Is Kabila?
Kabila is a Global ecosystem that offers accessible NFT solutions, educational content, and a passionate tribe of Web3 enthusiasts to empower creators and communities worldwide with Brand NFTs.
It provides everything to enable creators to monetize their creativity, finance their ideas, and regain ownership and control of the value they create.
By using Hedera Hashgraph, a fast and sustainable blockchain, Kabila ensures a seamless experience for users, from beginners to experts.
The Role of Kabila in the DeRec Alliance
Kabila aims to support the DeRec Protocol by offering development resources and valuable feedback based on customer needs, such as account and token key management. As a trusted partner, Kabila contributes actively to driving innovation while promoting DeRec awareness through adoption efforts and content creation.
Looking Ahead
We aim to contribute to a safer Web3 environment in which non-custodial wallets are practical and secure for all users. Developing recovery standards will reduce risks and lower barriers, enabling anyone to participate in and succeed in Web3.
We look forward to actively participating in this initiative and helping to shape a future in which Web3 is truly accessible to everyone!

The Playground is an open-source project developed by Hashgraph and Kabila. It is a browser-based application that developers can use to learn and experiment on the Hedera testnet. The Playground enables writing, executing, and sharing Java and Javascript code directly in the browser, so there’s no longer a need for complex local setups. And since the application uses familiar languages, it caters to developers of all experience levels, from seasoned Hedera Developers to Web2 developers just starting to learn Web3.
